Group Shared Marrakech to Merzouga 3-Day Itinerary:

Day 1 : Marrakech → Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley (7-hour drive)

Your Shared 3 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech, as we journey through the majestic High Atlas Mountains. The drive along the Tizi n’Tichka pass offers stunning vistas of valleys and remote Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides. Our first major stop is the ancient ksar of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its earthen architecture and its role in iconic films like “Gladiator” and “Lawrence of Arabia.” Here, you’ll have time to explore the maze-like streets and perhaps even meet a local family.

After a traditional Moroccan lunch, we continue to the Dades Gorge, passing through the picturesque Skoura oasis, known for its verdant palm groves and historic Kasbahs. As we approach the Dades Valley, the landscape shifts to dramatic rock formations and deep gorges. Check-in to your hotel, where you can relax and enjoy dinner, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of the valley.

After breakfast, we set off towards the Todra Gorge, another one of Morocco’s natural wonders. This area is famous for its towering cliffs, which reach up to 300 meters in height. You’ll have time to walk through the gorge, take in the sights, and capture some incredible photos.

Next, we head towards the Sahara Desert, passing through the towns of Tinjdad and Erfoud, the latter being known for its fossils and as the gateway to the desert. Arriving in Merzouga in the late afternoon, you’ll prepare for the highlight of the day: a camel trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. As you ride your camel across the undulating sands, the changing colors of the dunes during sunset will leave you spellbound.

Your destination is a traditional Berber camp, where you’ll be welcomed with warm hospitality. Enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner, followed by an evening of music around the campfire. As the night deepens, relax under the star-studded sky, far away from the lights of civilization.

We’ll make a stop in Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Sahara” and famous for its film studios and the Kasbah Taourirt. We had a fantastic time on our 3-day desert trip! Though it was sometimes tiring due to the long drives, it was a wonderful way to see a lot of Morocco in a short period. Our driver, Brahim, was friendly, helpful, and drove safely. Our guide, ÀAhmed, was a great person who was always ready for short breaks to show us interesting sights, explain Moroccan culture, and give us essential tips.

During our crossing of the Atlas Mountains, we stayed at a hotel run by a Berber family. We received a fascinating history lesson about the Amazigh people, which really opened our eyes.

There were just two downsides: the local guides in some towns often led us to shops, making it feel like shopping was the main focus of the visit. Also, while the desert food was great, lunches at other stops were bland and somewhat overpriced.

However, the camel ride in Erg Cehbbi, the sunset, and the campfire with music in the desert made it all worthwhile. We highly recommend this trip to anyone!

What an incredible adventure! Said, our main guide and driver, was fantastic! We had the fortune of sitting up front, which allowed us to ask endless questions about the Moroccan landscape and culture. Plus, his excellent taste in music had us Shazamming tunes throughout the journey.

The excursions with the local guides were equally inspiring. Their storytelling was captivating, and they made us feel both comfortable and warmly welcomed. From start to finish, the trip was seamlessly organized. We wholeheartedly recommend booking this experience!

The trip was an incredible experience, offering us the chance to meet numerous people and delve deep into the culture. The views were absolutely breathtaking and truly once in a lifetime. Our driver, Mohamed, was extremely friendly, although it took some time to get accustomed to his driving style. Be prepared for extensive driving times, including about 10 hours on the last day back to Marrakech. Note that the lunches can be pricey by Moroccan standards, and there are several stops aimed at selling merchandise. Despite these points, I highly recommend this tour as the overall experience and value for money were definitely worth it.
