How the Day Unfolds

Your driver picks you up from your Marrakech hotel (or Jemaa el-Fna). Board a modern AC minibus (max 17) and head south across the Haouz plains toward the green valleys of the High Atlas foothills.

The landscape shifts dramatically as you enter the Ourika Valley — red-rock gorges, green terraces, walnut groves, and Berber villages clinging to the hillsides. On Mondays, stop at the vibrant weekly Berber market at Tnin Ourika.
Hire a local hiking guide at Setti Fatma (small fee, paid directly) and hike up the rocky trail to the first waterfall — about 45 minutes uphill. The path crosses streams, passes small cafés, and winds through boulders. Moderate difficulty — sturdy shoes essential. The reward: a cascading waterfall in a mountain amphitheatre at 1,500m.
Prefer not to hike? Relax at the riverside cafés, browse the village stalls, or visit a traditional Berber home for tea. The valley floor is flat and easy to walk.
Find a table at one of the riverside cafés — low chairs, walnut-tree shade, the stream rushing past your feet. Berber tagine, grilled meats, fresh salads, and mint tea. Budget 60–120 MAD. This is the lunch you'll photograph and remember.
