If you can only spare a day to get the feeling of the Moroccan desert landscapes and lifestyle, Agafay Desert day trip will be your best choice.
Meet your driver/guide at your hotel and drive Southeast past orange, olive, and peach farms until you reach the moon-like arid hills of Agafay Desert.
From here, you will drive off the beaten track across. As you proceed further, you find yourself surrounded by the rugged dunes and rocky scene of Agafay desert. Cross dry rivers, canyons, and oases. Drive past Berber villages and watch flocks of sheep passing by.
After a cup of Mint tea, get ready for an hour camel trek followed by a delicious Moroccan Tagine lunch served under a nomad tent. You continue to Lalla Takerkoust Lake in the afternoon, located at the other end of the Agafay desert. This lake serves as a water reservoir supplying Marrakech with drinking water. On the horizon, you will witness the majesty of the High Atlas Mountains, full of snow most of the year.
Late in the afternoon, we return to Marrakech, and your Agafay day trip will come to an end with drop off at your hotel.

The Agafay Desert is a flat, rocky desert with dunes-like hills. There is no sand in the Agafay Desert.
You can easily combine a day trip to Agafay desert with a quad biking or dunes buggy activity. Simply reach out to us, and we will be more than happy to help you plan your perfect day.
Agafay Desert is 40km from Marrakech Via R 212. It can take up to 40 minutes to reach by car.
The Agafay Desert is a unique and beautiful place to watch the sunset, go quad biking, and camel riding. You can also see Berber villages and get a firsthand experience of the locals' lifestyle. This is an experience you won't want to miss!
The Agafay Desert is a popular alternative to the Sahara Desert because it can be explored in just one day. However, the Sahara Desert requires a minimum of three days to explore. Additionally, the Agafay Desert is not as sandy as the Sahara. Instead, it is rockier and more barren. However, you may find white sand dunes-like hills that will remind you of the Sahara Desert.
Camels are social animals and usually will not attack humans. So you can ride them without fear. However, if you force them to do something they don't want to, they may retaliate and cause you harm.
Since we only had 3 days and a half in Morocco, we thought it was a shame not to see some sort of a desert. After exchanging emails with Marrakech Desert Trips, they convinced us to stay around Marrakech, and go for a day trip to Agafay desert. Honestly, it was a lot fun, even this one is totally different from the desert we have in mind. At the end of the day, we ended up with a very good tour, delicious lunch, spectacular camel ride and friendly driver / guide Ibrahim
Our tour guide was both knowledgeable and kind. We spent a fascinating day in the Agafay Desert, visiting a Berber village (where we had the most delicious lunch with breath-taking views) and taking a short climb up the mountain to another town with one of the village ladies. Lots of photo stops especially by the lake, and all in all, a fantastic day.
They picked us up on schedule from our Riad, and Ali has made sure we've been taken care of since then. He explained everything to us in detail from the first minute and made the entire tour delightful and exciting. I've been to over 50 countries across six continents, and this was one of the finest top three trips I've ever experienced. Great car, fantastic experience, delectable meal, and a very friendly and informative tour lead by Ali!
