How the Day Unfolds
One hour of silence, 750 metres up, at first light. Jbilet desert below, waking villages, drifting balloons, a Berber breakfast, and the Atlas at sunrise.
~5:30 AM — Early Pickup & Drive to Launch Site
Your driver collects you from your Marrakech hotel or riad in the early morning — exact pickup time confirmed the evening before by WhatsApp (typically ~5:00–5:30 AM, varies by season and sunrise time). A comfortable 30-minute drive through the quiet pre-dawn streets to the Bourrous launch site near the Jbilet hills north of Marrakech.
Pre-Flight — Refreshments & Balloon Inflation
At the launch site, you're greeted with Moroccan tea, coffee and pastries while the crew prepares the balloon. Watching the inflation is an experience in itself — the enormous envelope fills with hot air, the burners roar, and the balloon slowly rises from flat on the ground to towering above you. Your certified pilot gives a safety briefing and answers questions. Then it's time to board.
The Flight — Sunrise Over the Atlas at 750 Metres
You lift gently off the ground and rise into the pre-dawn sky. Within minutes, the landscape opens up below — the Jbilet desert, Berber villages with smoke rising from morning fires, palm groves, farmland, and dry riverbeds. On the horizon, the Atlas Mountains begin to glow as the sun rises behind them — amber, pink, gold. The silence between burner blasts is extraordinary. You drift with the wind for about 1 hour, floating up to ~750 metres. Your pilot points out landmarks and shares stories. On clear mornings, dozens of other colourful balloons share the sky — a scene straight from a postcard.
Landing, Breakfast & Return to Marrakech
The balloon lands softly in the desert. The crew is waiting with a traditional Berber breakfast spread in a tent: freshly baked bread, honey, butter, jam, eggs, msemen, Moroccan doughnuts, and unlimited mint tea. After an hour in the cool morning air, this is exactly what you need. Sit, eat, share stories with other passengers, and soak in the stillness of the desert.
You receive your commemorative flight certificate. Then your driver takes you back to Marrakech — arriving at your hotel by mid morning. The rest of your day is completely free.

Know Before You Go
What to wear
Dress in layers: Marrakech is surprisingly cool before sunrise, even in summer. Trousers rather than skirts or dresses, a light jacket, and closed flat shoes for climbing in and out of the basket. Sunglasses and a hat for after landing.
Weight & age limits
Children fly from age 5 (they must be able to see over the basket edge); under-5s fly free with adult supervision, and 5–10s at a child rate. There’s a maximum passenger weight for balloon loading and safety — if this may apply to you, contact us before booking and we’ll arrange the right basket placement.
Health & pregnancy
Balloon flights aren’t suitable for pregnant travellers or anyone with serious heart or back conditions. You’ll stand for the flight and adopt a light brace position on landing — if you have mobility concerns, message us first and we’ll advise honestly.
Nervous about heights?
Most guests with a fear of heights are completely fine. The ascent is slow and gentle, the compartmented basket is chest-high and sturdy, and there’s no swaying or sudden movement — you simply drift with the wind.
Best time of year
Hot air balloon Marrakech flights operate daily, year-round. September to May brings the clearest skies, winter mornings add snow on the Atlas, and in high summer we fly at the earliest light before the heat builds.
Your pickup time
The exact pickup time (usually 5:00–5:30 AM) is confirmed the evening before by WhatsApp, based on sunrise time and the weather forecast — keep your phone reachable.
Weather policy
Safety decides, not the calendar. If the wind is up, your flight moves to the next morning — or you receive a full refund if you can’t reschedule. Book for your first morning in Marrakech so you have a built-in backup day.
What to bring
A camera or phone (kept secure — nothing loose over the basket edge), sunglasses and a light layer. Leave big bags at your hotel; there’s nowhere to stow them in the basket.
