Your driver-guide collects you from your Marrakech hotel or riad at 07:30 AM, and the road turns southeast almost immediately into the High Atlas Mountains. Berber villages cling to terraced slopes, almond and walnut groves fill the valleys, and the switchbacks climb to the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260m). Because the vehicle is yours, every viewpoint is a possible stop — your driver knows which ones are worth it.

Descend to the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, the fortified earthen village that Hollywood keeps returning to — Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia. Take your time: cross the riverbed, wander the alleyways, climb to the granary for the full panorama. An optional local guide (about €3) adds the history. Continue to Ouarzazate for lunch at a restaurant your driver trusts (own expense).

South of Ouarzazate the road climbs the Tizi n'Tinififft pass through the bare folds of the Anti-Atlas foothills, then drops into the Draa Valley at the village of Agdz. What follows is Morocco's longest oasis: hundreds of thousands of date palms beneath the jagged ridge of Jbel Kissane, mud-brick kasbahs such as Tamnougalt, and fields of henna, barley, and corn. Stop for photos or a mint tea whenever you like — this stretch rewards slowing down.

Arrive in Zagora in the late afternoon and meet your camels. The sunset trek across the desert lasts about an hour — shortened on request for younger children — as the light slides from gold to deep purple over the hamada and dunes. Your Berber desert camp welcomes you with mint tea and your own private tent. Dinner is a traditional Moroccan tagine, then Tam-Tam drumming around the fire and a sky crowded with stars.

Rise before dawn for the sunrise camel ride — the desert silent and cold, the first light spreading across the flat terrain and picking out the dunes. Back at camp, a Moroccan breakfast of fresh bread, msemen, jam, and coffee, then your driver is waiting for the road north.

The Draa Valley looks different in morning light — greener, sharper, worth a second photo stop. Back in Ouarzazate, visit the Taourirt Kasbah, the former stronghold of the Glaoui clan with its painted cedar ceilings, and, if you like, add Atlas Film Studios — the "Hollywood of Africa" — a stop the private format makes easy. Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass one final time, the afternoon sun throwing long shadows across the valleys. Arrive back in Marrakech in the late afternoon, typically 5–6 PM, and your driver drops you at your hotel or riad — two days, one Sahara night, entirely on your terms.
