WHAT TO PACK FOR A SHARED DESERT TOUR FROM MARRAKECH?

Many travelers willing to book or already booked their shared desert tour from Marrakech ask us for advice on what to bring on a Morocco desert tour. We will try to answer this question in detail within the course of this blog.

Pick up arrangements for your shared Marrakech desert tours.

Every morning, at 07h00 AM, our team of drivers and assistants run around riads and hotels in Marrakech to collect our guests to join their shared desert tour from Marrakech, be it a 2 days tour from Marrakech to Zagora desert, a Marrakech to Merzouga 3 days desert tour or a shared Marrakech to Fes desert tour. Please allow us a 10 to 15 minutes waiting time, as we are not sure when we can reach your riad or hotel. For those residing in riads in the heart of the Medina, we might designate a meeting point for you if our minibusses can not drive to the entrance of your riad. Don’t worry; we coordinate with your riads clerks to walk you to a designated meeting point close to your riad. Otherwise, our staff will come and walk you from your riad to your minibus.

Luggage policy during your group Morocco desert tour

Feel free to bring your luggage on the desert tour; it can stay safe in the minibus. You don’t need to get it with you to the desert camp if you choose to, but if you’re returning to the same hotel after your shared desert tour, we recommend leaving it in the hotel storage room for your comfort.A rack sack would be enough to store your belongings during your shared Morocco desert tour and allow you much space in your Bedouin tent in Erg Chebbi or Zagora. Alternatively, if you go on a private 3-day desert tour from Marrakech, and you choose to stay in a luxury Sahara camp, your luggage can be taken to your tent in a separate car while you enjoy your sunset camel ride.

What to wear for your Sahara desert trip?

Many travelers ask us what to wear on their desert trip, especially the ladies, as they usually try not to offend the locals. The answer is so simple: light clothes with a jumper (just in case) would do during the summertime. In wintertime, warm clothes, as the Desert is very cold during the year. You don’t need to bring a sleeping bag with you. There is proper bedding and warm blankets in your Morocco desert camp to keep you warm. A pair of jeans or trousers are highly recommended during your camel trekking adventure in Erg Chebbi or Zagora to avoid your legs contacting the camel skin as it might cause itchy skin.

Top 20 Other essential things to remember to carry with you on a Your desert trip to the Sahara

Your Sahara Desert camp has standard toilets, some basic shower facilities, and a power generator, which is turned off when everybody is asleep. We recommend that you bring some torches and some wet towels for your comfort during your Morocco desert trip.

Following is the list of Small things apart from those mentioned above which you should Pack Before Visiting.

Sun Glasses

Occasionally, your desert trip might coincide with a sand storm in Merzouga or Zagora, and for that reason, sunglasses are highly recommended to protect your eyes from the sand.

Scarf

A scarf (you can buy on your way to the Desert) will help you protect your hair, ears, and nose from the sand during your camel ride in Erg Chebbi and Zagora when the wind is blowing.

Swim Suits

When it is warm in Merzouga, you can bring your swimsuits with you as you might want to dip into the camp operator’s lodge swimming pool either in the afternoon before the sunset camel ride or in the morning after you return from the camp.

Wallets

We know it is fundamental, but most tourists ignore it. We recommend bringing some neck wallets with you because it is the easiest way to secure your valuables like phone, Camera, etc. Neck Wallets are better than your ordinary wallets because they are complex, and you can wear them around your neck, so in trekking, they will significantly help secure your valuables. We highly recommend this to people who book their Morocco Desert tour with us.

Water Bottles & Jugs

It is advised to bring water bottles because you would be dehydrated very quickly in the Desert, especially when you are trekking under the hot desert sun. You may purchase it because you can find water bottles, but you need to stop taking a drink which hinders your trekking. Also, if you could manage to bring Water jugs, it would be more helpful in your journey.

Portable Charger

We also recommend bringing some handy chargers with you because you will use your phone and Camera a lot on your desert trip. Because the Sahara Desert is where you will take thousands of Videos and photos. So, some power bank or portable charger is highly recommended.

Blanket

If you wish to gaze at the stars at night in the Desert, you should pack a Picnic Blanket. It is preferred to bring a durable and waterproof picnic blanket with you.

Sunscreen

Bring some good quality Sunscreen with you, especially for tourists from Cold places like the UK, US, Europe, Canada, etc., because sunburn will ruin your entire trip.

Rugged Sandals or Shoes

Buy some good sandals or Shoes before starting your Desert journey. We prefer Sandals in the Desert because they would be more comfortable than Joggers or sneakers. In addition, some rugged sandals are recommended, which help you in Hiking and trekking.

Sombrero Hat

Wide Brimmed Hat helps to protect your eyes and neck from the sun’s rays. An ordinary Cap would also be fine, but a Sombrero hat would be the best choice.

Tent

Although if you book a Desert tour with us, we will provide you with a comfortable tent for your stay. If you book your time with someone else, we recommend bringing your tent and camping gear.

Matches

Matches or Lighter is a standard hiking item and helps if you are stuck or want to camp at night.

Insect Repellent Lotion

The Desert has insects, and they can bite you. So although they are not such dangerous, prevention is better than cure, and you should apply some Mosel on you.

GPS AND MAPS

GPS and MAPS help to find your way in the Desert. If you get lost in the Desert, then GPS and Maps would be beneficial in guiding you in the correct direction.

Paracetamol

Desert conditions are very challenging, especially when you ride a camel for the first time. As a result, you may swirl a little. So, if you feel low, you should have access to antiseptic medicine.

First Aid Kit

This one is self-explanatory. When you travel anywhere, especially in the Desert, you have to pack a First Aid Kit. We highly recommend packing a First Aid Kit for you in case of Emergency.

Travel with Friends

Bring some friends to your desert tour. We know it should not be on the Packing List, but Desert is very hostile, and you may be bored in a couple of hours. So, if you bring a group of friends, it would be more fun. Speaking about Group desert tours, you should check our Group Marrakech Desert tours which are specially designed for Groups.

Wet Napkins &Towels

The Desert is dry, and you will sweat a lot. Bring wet napkins in your pocket to avoid sweating because when you sweat a lot, you will be dehydrated very quickly. Also, do not forget to bring Towels. The towels would help to clean After the shower.

Multitools help in Hiking, and in the Desert, you may want to use them at some point. It is better if you have it in your bag. Also, bring some headlamps because they will help you at night, especially when you want to go to the toilet.

Hand Sanitizers

We all know how vital Hand Sanitizers especially after this Corona Pandemic. In the Sahara Desert, you will meet thousands of other Tourists, so bring your Hand Sanitizers with you and maintain Social Distancing.
