Zagora Comfortable Desert Camp
Your tour includes a night here, in open rock desert between the Draa Valley and Djebel Zagora. Here's what the camp is like — and how to arrive ready for it.
The camp
An authentic nomad bivouac, far from the beaten track, where the only sounds at night are music and the fire.
The camp sits at the Tizi pass, between the palm-lined Draa Valley and the slopes of Djebel Zagora — set in open, flat rock desert with mountains on the horizon, and kept deliberately remote and quiet. This is hammada, the stony desert, rather than dune country, so don’t expect tall sand dunes here.
You sleep in traditional black Berber tents, the khaima, hand-woven by local women from goat hair, sheep’s wool and palm fibre. At the heart of the camp are two restaurant tents, small traditional lounges to rest in, and a large tea tent, all gathered around an open space for the campfire — where, each evening, the team’s musicians play under a sky thick with stars.

Where you'll sleep
Your room
You sleep in a traditional black Berber tent — the khaima — made from wide woven bands of goat hair, sheep's wool and palm fibre, stitched together by hand. They're simple and authentic, and warmer inside than you'd expect once the desert cools down.

Before you go
Arriving ready
Pack a warm layer
Out here the nights get cold, especially in winter — bring a jacket even if the day was hot.
Pack a duffle or backpack
Bring a small bag with your overnight essentials to carry on the camel ride. The rest of your luggage stays in the car.
No outlets in the tents
You can charge devices in the common areas, but not in the tents — bring a power bank to be safe.
Bring your own towel
Towels aren't provided. The shared bathroom blocks (women's and men's) have hot water and soap.
A little cash
Useful for drinks, tips, or any extras you add at the camp.
Look up at night
Far from any town, the night sky here is extraordinary — stay up for the stars and set an alarm for sunrise.
Good to know
Questions guests ask
How do I get to the camp?
Your driver brings you to the main road just outside Zagora, and from there it's a camel ride to the camp. If you'd rather not ride, you can walk alongside the caravan, or we'll arrange a jeep return transfer (€30 return for up to four people).
Are the bathrooms private or shared?
They're shared. The camp has two clean sanitary blocks — one for women, one for men — with hot and cold water and soap. Bring your own towel, as towels aren't provided. There are no private bathrooms inside the tents.
What are the tents like?
Traditional black Berber tents — the khaima — hand-woven from goat hair, wool and palm fibre. They're simple and authentic, and cosier inside than you'd expect once the desert cools at night.
What happens in the evening?
Dinner is served in the restaurant tent, and afterwards the team's musicians play around the campfire under the stars.
What should I bring for the night?
A duffle bag or backpack with your overnight essentials for the camel ride (the rest of your luggage stays in the car), your own towel, a warm layer for the cold nights, and a little cash. There are no power outlets in the tents, so bring a power bank — you can charge in the common areas.
